Old technique, new approach

Graphic patterned tiled floor paired with blood red wall

The floor is a combination of an antique pattern and encaustic technique with a modern color scheme. Encaustic cement tile is extremely durable with the surface pattern being 2-3mm thick. The pattern is a combination of the fleur-de-lis and a Maltese cross motif. Tilework is finished with a matte sealer to coordinate with the matte black “marble” tilework.

  • Black and white diagonal checkerboard floor tile design.

  • Matte finish medieval-inspired tile with pattern

  • White grout for a lighter effect.

  • Great contrast to the blood red wall.

The drawing below represents the second phase of the tile design for the bathroom which, in this case, is a walk-in shower. The illustration shows a to-scale rendering including the use of the Mexican tile with patterns mixed with solid cobalt which was selected during the initial design phase.
